Rapid Creek Cidery

I don’t know about you but Wilson’s Orchard has been a part of my life for what feels like forever!  I have always loved heading to the orchard and picking my own apples and pumpkins and I have brought my daughter out every year since she was born.  It’s such an integral part of Iowa City life.  When Riley and I heard that there were plans to add an event center on site we knew we had check it out!

We have had several clients request photos at the orchard and of course have complied.  We’ve even had a wedding or two out on the grounds and it is always gorgeous.  After seeing the new site we are especially excited to photograph more weddings at Wilson’s because let me tell you, it is stunning!

Rapid Creek Cidery is a dual location, split between the family style restaurant on the 2nd floor and a taproom on the ground level.  The event space holds over 200 guests. It comes fully furnished with a built in bar. Perfect for all the hard ciders they’ve got on tap!  The cidery all does all of the catering, bar tending, and provides the tableware. All you have to worry about is your decorations and cake!

The new outdoor ceremony location is near the creek under a fantastic grove of oak trees in view of the apple trees and picturesque hills that make up the orchard. Although the outdoor space is perfect, it's also nice that they have an indoor space in case of rain or poor weather.

One of the things that we love about Rapid Creek Cider the most is that they source locally as much as possible.  All of the wood used to build the barn and all the tables and chairs came from 100 year old barns in the area, not to mention all the fantastic décor in the building came from the same barns.  The food is locally sourced as much as possible, and there is a nice symmetry about it.  The apple pomace, a byproduct of pressing the apples for ciders, is fed to livestock on the family farm, as well as neighbors’ farms which eventually comes back to Rapid Creek.

The menu items are expected to change with the seasons and are expertly crafted by chef Matt Steigerwald.  Head down to try out some of his fabulous creations! The kitchen is now open Wednesday - Saturday, 5 - 9pm.
