The last event of our June wedding marathon (7 weddings in 6 weeks!!) happened on June 24th in Wayland, Iowa at the Green Mound Church and I couldn't dream of a more perfect end. There was a slight breeze, a few clouds and a wonderful group of people to spend the day with. Dana and Ben met each other at a friend's bonfire and hit it off immediately, although Dana told Ben that she never wanted to get married. Luckily she changed her mind eventually, the wedding was so beautiful and the love that Dana and Ben share is palpable.
"I love you as much as there are stars in the sky" - these were the words Ben spoke seconds before he proposed to Dana, under a blanket of stars in Northern Michigan. Dana and Ben were on a trip "Up North" with her sister and her sister's husband when Ben created a diversion (a late night shopping trip). When they got back to the condo they were struck by the night sky which had so many more stars than back home. Ben got down on one knee and proposed, and she, of course, said yes.
The wedding ceremony was an intimate affair with close relatives of the bride and groom and included a lovely foot washing ceremony. Although small there was no shortage of fun the day of and I am so happy that we were able to be a part of it all! Dana and her girls were so great to be around that Darian and I found ourselves laughing along with them in no time. Everything about the day was so special from bouquets that were hand picked with Dana's grandmother that morning to the fun (and some antique) details at the reception. Even the table signs were hand painted. The reception took place at Lake Darling State Park and included a pie table (yum!).
"I told him that I never wanted to get married (a number of heartbreaks will do that to a girl!). And the thing that struck me is that he told me that was fine [. . . ] Now he is my husband, and I know that deciding to give into my feelings for him those years ago was the best thing I ever could have done." There are so many beautiful moments to share with you all from this wedding, and so many beautiful moments ahead of these two! Dana and Ben are some of the most genuine and caring people I have had the pleasure of meeting and I wish them nothing but happiness and love!
Thank you so much to all the wonderful vendors!
